Welcome to St Andrew’s Church, Wanborough
A Place of Worship, Heritage, and Community in the Wiltshire Downs.
Set in the village of Wanborough, where the modern sits comfortably side by side with the more historic village dwellings, St Andrew’s Church is a centre of Christian worship and local heritage. Whether you are seeking a spiritual home, a peaceful place to reflect, or a church for a special life event, we warmly welcome you.
We come together for worship on the third Sunday of each month, sharing prayer, praise, and fellowship as part of the Wellspring Villages community. Whether you live locally or are visiting, you’ll always find a warm welcome. Our services move between our beautiful village churches, each offering a unique place of peace and reflection.
A Church Rich in History
St Andrew’s is a striking example of medieval church architecture, with roots dating back to the 13th century. Its distinctive Y-shaped churchyard, beautiful stained glass, medieval wall paintings and ancient stonework reflect centuries of faith and community. It is one of only three churches in the country which has a spire and a tower. As a Grade I listed building, it continues to serve not only as a place of worship but also as a reminder of a past shared heritage.
With a church on the site by at least the 11th century, Wanborough’s St Andrew’s has very deep roots (references to a medieval church/service from Domesday-era times and grants in the 11th century) and was substantially rebuilt in the 14th century; later 15th-century additions (west tower, north/south porches, chancel work) and a Victorian restoration occurred in the 19th century. Architecturally notable for having both a west tower and a central (crossing) spire — only one of three English churches with that combination — and for surviving medieval wall paintings and multiple historic bells.
