Friends of Wellspring

Our churches in Bishopstone, Hinton Parva, Lyddington, and Wanborough are at the heart of our villages — places of worship, history, celebration, and comfort. But keeping them open, beautiful, and well-maintained takes care, commitment, and resources.

The Friends of Wellspring is a group for anyone — whether or not you attend services — who values these buildings and wants to see them preserved for future generations.

By becoming a Friend, you’ll:

– Help safeguard our historic church buildings and churchyards

– Support restoration, repairs, and improvements

– Receive updates about projects, events, and fundraising activities

– Be part of a community that treasures our heritage and its role in village life

Who can join?

Anyone! You might have family ties to the parish, a love of local history, or simply want to support these buildings as places of peace and welcome.

Staying in Touch (Without Joining the Electoral Roll)

Being a Friend is different from being on the Church Electoral Roll. You don’t have to be an Electoral Roll member, and there’s no expectation to vote at church meetings or take part in formal church decision-making.

If you simply want to hear news, support events, and keep up to date with the life of our churches, joining the Friends is a perfect way to stay connected.

Together, we can keep our churches standing strong — not just as landmarks, but as living symbols of faith, history, and community.

What’s the difference between the Electoral Roll and Friends of the Churches?

What is the Church Electoral Roll?

The Electoral Roll is the official list of church members who have the right to vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and stand for election to the Parochial Church Council (PCC) or Deanery Synod. To be on the roll, you need to meet certain criteria, such as being baptised, over 16, and either living in the parish or regularly attending church here.

Can I be on both?

Yes! Many people choose to be on the Electoral Roll and be a Friend of a Church — one supports the governance and ministry of the parish, while the other focuses on the upkeep and future of our beautiful buildings.

What are Friends of Wellspring?

The Friends is a group for anyone who loves and supports our church buildings and wants to see them preserved, whether or not they attend services regularly. You don’t need to meet the formal criteria for the Electoral Roll, and there’s no voting or meeting commitment.

Which one should I join?

If you’re actively involved in church life and want to help make decisions about the parish, join the Electoral Roll.

If you mainly want to support and stay in touch about the care of the buildings, become a Friend of Wellspring.

Of course, you can do both!
