People ringing church bells inside a historic village church bell tower

Bell Ringing

Welcome to the Wanborough & Liddington Bell Ringers

The dedicated volunteer team who lovingly maintain and ring the magnificent eight bells at St Andrew’s Church in Wanborough, Wiltshire. Our historic ring is housed in one of only three English churches featuring both a west‑end tower and a central spire.

About the Bells

A ring of eight change‑ringing bells (plus a separate service bell), expertly restored and rehung in 2019 by John Taylor & Co of Loughborough.

Information about the bells at the other churches needed which can be added after publication of page.

The bells span centuries, from the 6th (1662, William Purdue III) to the modern 1st and 2nd bells (1997, John Taylor & Co). The 4th bell (1730 by John Cor) is admired as an excellent specimen of its era.

We ring before Church Services on Sundays, but we don’t just ring then.

We practice on Friday nights and we also ring for weddings and for other local, Royal, National and International occasions.

Once you can ring to a suitable standard on practice nights, you will be asked to ring for Sunday Services.  In addition you will be able to ring at other towers, go on outings, support Branch and Association ringing events, and ring quarter peals and peals (if you are keen).  Quarter peals last around about 45 minutes depending on the weight of the bells.  Peals are about 3 hours long, and can be really hard work!

Ringing helps keep you mentally and physically fit, requiring a little bit of homework.  You have to do this before putting into practice ringing in the tower.

Whether you’re curious about the tradition, keen to learn, or simply want to hear the bells in action, you’re warmly invited to join us.

Experience the thrill of ringing a beautifully crafted historic ring of eight, with centuries‑old heritage and a striking tone.
