Baptism service in church with priest holding baby surrounded by family

Baptism

A Joyful Step in Christian Faith.

Baptism is a special moment in life—a joyful occasion where we celebrate new beginnings, belonging, and God’s love. Whether you are bringing your child for Baptism (Christening) or exploring baptism for yourself, we would be delighted to journey with you.

What Is Baptism?

Baptism (also known as a Christening) is a symbolic act of outward washing with water, marking the beginning of an inward journey of faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In baptism, we:

  • Thank God for the gift of our creation and life on earth
  • Mark the beginning of our, or our babies, journey of inward faith and trust in God’s saving grace in the person of His Son Jesus Christ
  • Welcome a person into the family of the Church, the body of Christ

In the Church of England, baptism is offered to people of all ages, from newborns to adults.

Baptism for Children

Bringing your child for baptism is a wonderful way to give them a foundation in the Christian faith. During the service, parents and godparents declare their faith in God and make promises to help nurture their child’s spiritual growth/faith journey within the Christian faith.

We will help you prepare for the service, guide you through what to expect, and welcome you into the wider church family.

Baptism for Adults

It is never too late to be baptised. If you were not baptised as a child and now feel a desire to take this step in your journey of faith, we would love to support you.

Adult baptisms are deeply personal and moving occasions, often part of a larger service of worship, or combined with confirmation if you wish to take that next step.
